Computational methods of filling silica gel in industrial chromatographic columns
I Volume of column:
Diameter is d, radius is r, height is h.
Volume
V=πr²h=π×(d²÷4)×h
For example: height of volume is 3 meter, diameter is 309mm (772.5px), volume is following: Volume of column=π×(30.9²÷4)×300=3.14×(30.9²÷4)=224858ml≈225L. Therefore, volume of column is 225L.
II Calculating silica gel in column.
Columns in 3 meter can load 300-400 mesh silica gel in 100-200kgs.
Load 100kg in average, volume per liter can fill 0.44Kg silica gel. 100÷225=0.44Kg/L
Volume of 1kg silica gel is 2.25L (225÷100=2.25L/Kg)
III If the client decides to fill 150Kg silica gel, what is volume? V=2.25×150=337.5≈340L
IV What is height of the column in R400mm,150kgs? h=(340×10³)÷(3.14×20²)=270.7CM≈2.7meter.
